2012 Tree and Shrub Sale

Native Tree and Shrub Sale
In January, order forms will be sent out to those on the mailing list for our Annual Tree & Shrub Sale. (Early birds can download the Order Form ).

We work collaboratively with South St. Louis SWCD to offer a larger variety of tree and shrub options. For best selection, remember to place your order early. We only offer species native to our region. In using indigenous trees and shrubs, we help reclaim the original ecosystems of northern Minnesota. There is no worry about non-natives overtaking more sensitive natives, which happens in the plant world, just as it does among fish in our waterways. And, give them proper soil and water conditions, native species thrive, because they like it here!

Furthermore, in purchasing native plants, we are encouraging area nurseries to stock more of them. If there's a native tree or shrub you are interested in, but don't see listed here, please let us know. With enough demand, supply will change.

If you are interested in receiving the Annual Tree Sale announcement, please contact our office at 218-387-3647.

What type of tree should I order?
We offer resources to learn what each native tree and shrub has to offer. We have many books in our office or you can begin by viewing Tree/Shrub Descriptions & Pictures and from there, to dig deeper into a species' character, click the underlined name, and you will get more photos, illustrations and descriptions.

gcGift Certificates available!
For the person who has everything (or not enough of something), get them a gift certificate for Native Trees and Shrubs! You set the amount, and we mail them a lovely certificate, along with our order form. Call or email us today to arrange for your Gifts that Grow! (Labor not included!)

Want to split an order?
Sometimes a bundle of 25 seedlings is just too many for one site to hold (or for one person to plant!). This year, South St. Louis Soil & Water is offering the use of their Facebook page to help buying partners find each other.

All you need to do is:
• post a message on South St. Louis Soil and Water Facebook page about what you would like to order
• check back regularly to see if anyone wants to 'go-in' on the order with you!

Please note: We will not be involved in plant buying partnerships, other than to provide the meeting grounds of Facebook. You will need to work out the details of splitting the cost and of splitting the seedlings in a timely fashion so they can be promptly planted.
