 Biz Clark is an integral part of conservation in Cook County. She supports conservation and water quality, both at a state and local level. Locally, Biz is Chair of the Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations (CCCoLA), active in her local lake association (Poplar Lake) and recently worked on a subcommittee to recommend revisions to Cook County shoreland regulations. She advocates for more active septic system management and lakeshore regulations. Beyond just being involved in CCCoLA, Biz has been a part of the Septic Committee, Water Advisory Committee and the DNR Shoreland Revision Advisory Committee. Biz also works at building more relationships between the county boards, offices, specialized boards and members of lake associations. Each year for the last several years she has organized workshops for lake monitors, property owners and contractors to help them better manage property around our lakes. She has worked with the electric company to mitigate impacts to the environment along their right of ways. Biz has gone the extra mile to be at legislative session meetings at the committee level in St. Paul to ensure legislators are aware of lake owners’ perspectives and continue to protect lakes. Biz has testified at the State legislature on issues that affect our lakes, such as invasive species, stormwater runoff and shoreland management. She is willing to engage in policy meetings, such as the International Joint Commission Committee. She provides support for CoLA Collaborative at the state level to give lake associations more of a voice in state policy making. As a lakeshore property owner, Biz has practiced what she preached by establishing buffer zones and mitigating stormwater runoff appropriately on her own property. She is an energetic and effective advocate for maintaining and improving the quality of our lakes. Thank you Biz, for all you do for conservation in Cook County. Biz is being recognized as an outstanding conservationist by the Cook County Soil & Water Conservation District and will also be acknowledged at the annual meeting of the Minnesota Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts in St. Paul. |
