Soil & Water Conservation District


The mission of Cook County Soil & Water (SWCD) is to improve water quality in Cook County by fostering responsible land use and by controlling soil erosion and non-point source pollution. The Board will encourage local conservation efforts by providing educational, technical, and financial assistance for local land users."(adopted June 2000)

Cook County Soil & Water is now accepting shoreline erosion reduction project applications from private and public landowners in Cook County. Shoreland Planting Demonstration Workshop

On July 7, a dozen participants spent one hour in the classroom learning from a water resource educator about shoreline restoration. They took the classroom content and moved outside to have a guided hands-on experience to create a restored shoreland. The group harvested red-osier dogwood to create bundle logs to stabilize the shoreline from erosion and planted native plants in the place of lawn grass. The site is located at the Grand Marais Recreational Park Campground. This opportunity was funded in part by the advice cialis costs Minnesota Clean Water Land and Legacy Funds.

Jerry Hiniker, Cook SWCD Supervisor – District 5, and two staff, Kerrie Berg and Theresa Oberg, from Cook Soil and Water Conservation District, attended a legislative briefing and meetings at the State Capitol January 26-27 in St. Paul.

They joined a group of other officials from the state’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) who met in St. Paul to gather support for conservation districts’ programs and issues.
