Media Release - Customs & Border Protection Officer Found Fatally Shot at Border
March 20, 2017 – At approximately 6 pm on Sunday, March 19, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from the Grand Portage Port of Entry where a male US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officer was found fatally wounded from what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The name of the CBP Officer is being withheld while an investigation continues and autopsy is completed.
“This is an extremely tough loss,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen. “He was well known and respected in the community and protective service agencies, and our hearts and prayers are with his family, colleagues and community during this difficult time.”
No further details will be released at this time.

Media Release - 911 and Telephone Service Restored in Cook County
3 PM: March 7, 2017 – 911 and extended phone service has been restored across Cook County. CenturyLink has repaired the damaged fiber and service to 911 is working across all telephone exchanges.
“The Sheriff’s Office extends it thanks to the many volunteer firefighters and first responders who staffed our fire halls during this outage, and commend our dedicated dispatch professionals for their versatility in working through these outages,” said Sheriff Pat Eliasen.
